Last weekend American Barbie Thomas participated in the U.S. Championships Bodybuilding Championships NPC.
Though Barbie has not won any major awards, it was the only one among hundreds of competing men and women who received a standing ovation.
When Barbie was two years old, she was trying to climb a transformer vault, standing next to her house, and, clambering up, grabbed the bare wires, causing an electric shock to get stronger. As a result, she lost both hands, which burned to the forearm.
“The doctor said that I would not survive, and if they survive, it’ll be a vegetable. But God had other plans for my account. I’m still here – alive and well, and I feel good, “- says Thomas.
Some time after the amputation Thomas found the strength to return to normal life and do adapted feet all that ordinary people are doing with his hands: brushing teeth, cooking dinner, writing sms, make purchases, apply makeup, and even drive. But most importantly – she has not given up his dream of bodybuilding.
“I finally decided to call the local chairman of the competition and talk to her. She gave me the green light, and so, in 2003, hitting its first fitness competition, I fell in love with this thing. Now it’s in my blood, I can not live without it.
“During my first competition, I caught myself on a puzzled look. Sure, people were surprised and asked each other – that I was doing there.Indeed, this is a contest of physical advantages, and I lost my hands and my body does not have the symmetry, they want to see here. But after my first performance, they realize that I am just an athlete, like everyone else. ”
Bodybuilding gave Barbie a goal to work in a certain direction and the opportunity to feel good. She trains every day, and out of competition likes to do what they do all the normal mother – caring for her two sons.
“You can do anything you want. The only existing limitations are those that you set yourself. All they have to one degree or another – perhaps my more noticeable than yours.
Mind – it’s really powerful thing and if you are positive and believe in yourself, believe in what you can do, then everything is possible. ”
