The American Museum of Natural History has reconstructed the evolutionary history of hominins using fossils. Hominins is the group that includes modern humans and our extinct relatives. Our closest living relatives are chimpanzees, but the extinct hominins were closer. Scientists look for clues as to where and how they lived and why they went extinct.
