With the commencement of mall culture in the world there has been a great competition to build the biggest malls worldwide. Some of the shopping malls are almost as big as small colonies. 1) Mall of America (Minnesota, USA) –
Built in 1992 and though this is the 3rd largest mall in North America but it has a theme park and wedding chapel inside it. Its built up area is 4,200,000 sq. ft. and more than 40 million customers come into this mall every year which makes it one of the most visited mall in the world.
2) Mall of the Emirates (Dubai) –
It’s really very huge and covers almost 223,000 sq. mts. of area. This mall has shopping as well as entertainment park where you can enjoy ice skeeing. Besides these it has 14 screen multiplex, two level magic planet, two hotels, restaurants and many other.
3) The Grand Canal Shoppes (Las Vegas, USA) –
The Grand Canal Shoppes is an 500,000 sq ft (46,000 m2) upscale shopping mall adjacent to The Venetian Hotel & Casino and The Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.
The mall was opened along with the Venetian in 1999.
The mall has indoor canals, where gondolas will take you around the mall. The mall is anchored by a flagship, high-fashion Barney New York store and contains many designer and upscale boutiques. Live performances can be found throughout the mall.
As of 2008, the mall was seeing 20 million visitors a year, among the highest in the country.
4) Tokyo Midtown Mall (Tokyo, Japan) –
This mall is the perfect blend of mix use development as it contains shops, offices, clinic, hotel, etc. this mall is made in the year 2007.
5) Wafi Mall (Dubai) –
Opened in 2001, the mall includes over 200 stores, and has a small 80,000 square metre (861,113 square foot) theme park called Encounter Zone. The owners which are famous enough, is known by his last name “Adat” mall.
6) West Edmonton Mall (Alberta, Canada) –
West Edmonton Mall (WEM), located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is the largest shopping mall in North America and the fifth largest in the world. The mall was founded by the Ghermezian brothers, who emigrated from Iran in 1959. It was the world’s largest mall until 2004.
West Edmonton Mall covers a gross area of about 570,000 m2 (well over 6 million sq ft). There are over 800 stores and services and parking for more than 20,000 vehicles. More than 23,000 people are employed at the property. The mall receives 28.2 million visitors per year; it also attracts between 60,000 and 150,000 shoppers daily, depending on the day and season. The mall was valued at C$926 million in January 2007.
7) The Dubai Mall (Dubai) –
The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall based on total area and fifth largest by gross leasable area. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, it is part of the 20-billion-dollar Burj Khalifa complex, and includes 1,200 shops. Access to the mall is provided via Doha Street, rebuilt as a double-Decker road in April 2009.
Twice delayed, Dubai Mall opened on November 4, 2008, with about 600 retailers, marking the world’s largest-ever mall opening in retail history. However it is not the largest in gross leasable space, and is surpassed in that category by several malls including the South China Mall, which is the world’s largest, Golden Resources Mall, SM City North Edsa, and SM Mall of Asia.
The Dubai Mall has recorded a visitor turn-out of more than 60,000 tickets sold for the Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre in the first five days, following its opening. The Dubai Mall hosted over 37 million visitors in 2009, and attracts more than 750,000 visitors every week.while in 2010 it hosted 47 million, and saw footfall increase by around 27 percent over 2009, despite the economic crisis.

It has it’s name in the top-10 largest malls in the world. It’s total leasable area is 3.4 million sq. ft.
9) Istanbul Cevahir (Istanbul, Turkey) –
Istanbul Cevahir Shopping and Entertainment Centre, opened on 15 October 2005, is a modern shopping and entertainment centre located in the Şişli district of Istanbul, Turkey. Called also Şişli Kültür ve Ticaret Merkezi (Şişli Cultural and Trade Centre). Istanbul Cevahir is the largest shopping centre in Europe, and the sixth largest in the world.
10) King of Prussia Mall (Pennsylvania, USA) –
The King of Prussia Mall is the largest shopping mall on the East Coast of the United States, and largest shopping mall in the United States of America in terms of leasable retail space.
It is located in King of Prussia, an area within Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania, northwest of Philadelphia. The two sections that compose the King of Prussia Mall include the Plaza at King of Prussia and the Court at King of Prussia, which includes the Pavilion at King of Prussia.
